Seniors Golf

The Queensland Golf Union invites all senior golfers to browse this "Seniors Golf" section on the website and encourages seniors to take part in the many new developments that have been established specifically for golfers of the "more mature" age.

The QGU is opening the event up in 2007 to all clubs in Queensland. The format is for teams of 8 senior golfers to play a home and away series against the other teams in their flight. All matches are mid-week.

  • QGU v ADFGA Match - In the year 2004, the Australian Defence Force Golf Association approached the Queensland Golf Union about initiating an annual match between this Association's National Team and a team selected to represent the Queensland Golf Union. This QGU team consists of 12 players - a number of these representatives being senior golfers. The annual ADFGA v's QGU match has proven to be very successful with camaraderie amongst all players second to none!!

The 2007 match is scheduled for June 13 - 15.

  • Jack Brown Shield - In co-operation with the Professional Golfers Association of Australia - Queensland Division, the inaugural Seniors Challenge v's PGA Seniors was played at the Royal Queensland Golf Club on 15th July 2005 - the amateur team being successful 6 matches to 4.

In 2006 - the event was held at The Glades, with the PGA Team regaining the Jack Brown Shield.

  • Queensland Senior Open Championship - A major initiative of the Senior Advisory Group is the introduction of the Queensland Senior Open Championship in July 2006. A great deal of work has been underway for many months involving representatives of the Queensland Golf Union, the PGA Queensland Division and host club, Nudgee Golf Club in an endeavour to hold a successful inaugural Championship. We encourage all senior golfers to support this event and to congratulate the Nudgee Golf Club for accepting the challenge to host the first Senior Open Championship in Queensland.
  • Walking Stick Challenge - The inaugural "Walking Stick Challenge" was played in conjunction with the 2005 Victorian Senior Amateur Championship and was well received with teams competing from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. The event is now open to all States and Territories and rotates between Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales, being held in conjunction with the State's Senior Amateur Championship on a rotational basis.

New Zealand has also expressed some interest in participating and the Queensland Senior Amateur Championship now includes an International Teams event open to teams from each State and Territory, as well as any International Teams.

The Queensland Senior Advisory Group is continually looking at ways to improve seniors golf and further initiatives will be noted on this site as seniors golf in Queensland progresses.
